All About the Mow
Mowing your lawn is easy. It’s so simple, what else is there to know? You yank the cord and off you go… right?
If you want to avoid damaging your grass, wasting your time and spending too much money than there are a few things you should know.
SAVE YOUR GRASS
If you’re cutting your grass so close you think it looks as great as a fairway, stop now. Just. Stop. We’re in Indiana, where cool-season grasses should be cut from 2 ½ to 3 ½ inches. If you cut it any lower you’re risking making those ugly brown patches around your lawn and actually making it easier for weeds to grow.
If you’re unsure on the how high your blades are from the ground begin by ratcheting your mower deck up to the highest setting. It’s much better for your lawn to cut too little then way too much.
SAVE YOUR TIME
You’re not saving any time when you rush through your mowing job. Take your time and make sure you cut down any troublesome patches the first time around.
Grass leans in the direction you mow it, so it helps to reverse your direction every time you mow. By going against the grain you cut will stay more consistent and further cut down on any time spent backtracking.
SAVE YOUR MONEY
Don’t bag your grass. Not having any clippings on the sidewalk may look nice, but just throwing them out is tossing money in the trash.
Grass clippings are full of nitrogen and other nutrients that are beneficial to soil. As they break down they reduce the amount of fertilizer you have to use by 25 percent
Cut your grass high, cut it steady, stop bagging and you’ll be working towards a much healthier and beautiful lawn. If you need a break, contact us at Clean Cut Lawn & Landscaping and we’ll take care of it for you.
